Fashion&Textiles - knitting

29th October

Can use knitting samples asdecorations.

How to set up the knitting machine -  Cast on knitting, pulling the feeders towards you before placing the yarn on the feeder. Before use the carriage needs to be pushed to the right hand side of the machine When the Weight is attached to the yarn, the feeders don't need to be pulled towards you again, just repeat the same process (moving the carriage back and forth).

This is the Tool box for the knitting machine.

This is the carriage. The Tension dial needs to be on (7/8).

Stripes - are similar to regular knitting connecting a different yarn to the other side of the machine repeating the same process as before. To change back the colour, undo the lock which then releases the yarn then place the other yarn into the carriage and place the old yarn to the side of the machine so that it won't get cort in the maching process.

Honeycomb - gathering the yarn which has already been knitted by three tongs to the feeders once he carriage has moved back and forth it will create a bubble/pelted 3D pattern.

This is how my partner created the honeycomb technique.

Lace hole - with one end of the pick up.gathering a stitch attaching it to the nxt stitch beside it.

Orange peal (spiraling knitting) - push a few feeders towards you at one time to create a graduated pattern using different colours to show this pattern clearly.

Grafting attaching other samples together

I found that knitting was challenging at first but once I learnt the basic techniques I found it very easy to use, the harest technquie I used was the orange peal as it was hard to work out the changes I had to do before I got a succfull outcome.
I felt the best technquie I used was the Honeycomb and the lace hole as once complete was very effective (used both theses in my final sample) relating back to Shady Zeineldine's  purple dress (2011) as the textures from that dress reminded me of the technquies I tried throughout the day espeaically the 'honeycomb' technquie as this created a more 3D wave like texture likewise to Zeineldine's dress. In future I would of used the same colour as the dress but there was a restricted colours that I could use at that time. From the samples that I made the colours espeaically relate to my 'identity as red and blue to me symbolises the football team I support (Crystal Palace).
Having now practised a little on the knitting machine I am comfortable in making samples like this in the future.
