FMP - Creative Making Day 3

The brains were made from spounges depicting 'your brain is like a spounge' sucking up water or in this case information from different sources. As a group we choose two sponges to paint reflecting the two pathways (combinding as one once in the thread structure I made).
In my opinion I felt that the brains could of been improved via the shape and detail as it still looked like a spounge or perhaps this was intended to make it more clear that the brain is a spounge.

In some feed back a comment was made on the eyes, represent the window to the brain this made me think about what we see or even hear and smell can reflect our own opinions and how are brain reacts to certain information receive either it be through the media or anther source baring in mind that every brain 'person' is different and that they think in unquie way from one another.

In hindsight after popping the balloon I noticed that the thread was collapeing and that I should of covered the balloon with another coating of thread and PVA to make the structure stronger and more rigid so. At in future this problem wouldn't happen again.  In other thoughts in some ways I felt that the mask part of the structure was to much? Or that it doesn't really blend in well with the rest of the structure perhaps I could of used more thread and put them over the mask? But then in other ways without it there would be more confusing to what the object is linked to.

I felt that even the appearance on the thread reminded me of the brain in certain features, the colour scheme was firstly to represent the individual colours of everyone in the group depicting their favourite colour but as I was making the mould I ran out of them particular colours however even though I had a varity of colours it still remind me of the different nerves in the brain as they blend in together likewise to  our train of thought in the group moulding our ideas together to create an indivual object.

The black head

After talking to someone about their work I des covered they research in the cartoon museum this could be a god idea for part of my research as it involves 'splitting image' using puppets could be another idea for my project?

Another creative making project; Moonhead story board this group made an animated film reminds me back to the rotation stage for lens base media another way to show a story likewise to my project as it re tells the true meanings of the fairytales.

FMP - Creative Making Day 2

Figure 1

Figure 1 is shown in - Spector, 2014, http://www.etsy.com p unknown

This was one of the first inspirations I found that could be used for the face and the brain but thought that it could show the brain off didn't want it to be hidden away.

So the I found this technique of using a balloon to make the shape of object and then apply thread to the balloon with PVA to make sure it's circure so once the balloon burst the structure will still be standing.
Could even be a technquie used in my FMP for the 'Cinderella tree' cut the top part out to form the leaves of the tree

My first thought how to make the structure Was to wrap celitape round my faceal features to put onto the balloon mould to create a head shape n my atempt to do this the mould didn't look realistic and that it could look out of place.

After finding out that using my face for the mould didn't work I found a mask that I had, so that I could get the basic shape of a face without it being to difficult to create. From the mehod previous (from the spider and old woman storyboard) I wraped celitape around the mask (sticky side up) and then once again wrap the celitape round the second time (sticky side down) to create a solid mould. Once the mould was finished I then cut off the celitaped structure from the mask itself so that I could glue kitchen roll to it so there would be a flat surface for me to then paint onto to make the mask (face) look realistic.
For the the eyes I thought about making the eyes from the same method but then thought they would look out of place so I then decided to draw the eyes on paper and stick them behind the wholes in the mask in my opinion I felt that this technquie worked very well with the painted mask and did like life like.

After popping the balloon the structure was collapseing to try and resolve this issue I tide knots in the structure where the weaker parts were to try and strengthen the structure as I couldn't  add more thread and glue onto it as I didn't have enough time. If the balloon was a lot small I think that the structure collaping wouldn't be a problem as the structure would be more compacked.

FMP - Creative Making 1

As a group we first looked at what everyone's theme from are own FMP, e.g. Mis-leading (fairytales), Radio, Towns and Cities and media affect on children. There was a common denominator; of control (from the media), stories/journeys  other peoples perceptions on life perhaps are different from one another.

Figure 1

(Figure 1 from - Unknown,unknown,2011,http://m.imgur.com/CpuKa, p unknown)

After brainstorming we came up with:

-Hand represents being cort in the media, being captured
- a main story on the media ATM is about a plane cashing down in the sea but is still not been found sence of mystery like 'where's Wally?' Books ( this was after the crit feedback from other as the hand idea wasn't clear enough on what subject we were actually talking about the idea needed to be more asoicated with one particular subject so that we could re think the appearance of the object so it solely relates to the topic as the hand was relates on a boarder level.

Miss-leading - Research

Authors own

What came to my mind first with the theme miss-leading was irony. It can come in a general occur acne e.g. Near where I live there is a laser removal shop right next to a tattoo shop or perhaps can stem from a more fictional source such as fairytales.

A few examples of irony:
- Wicked (therete production) tells the story of the wicked witch of the west but it is miss-leading because people don't know if this is the true story.
- sleeping beauty taken sleeping pills.
- Walt Disney himself can't draw Mickey Mouse.
Vampires are scared of the dark.
- a canionball eating a cannonball. Etc...

I then asked a few people what they thought about the theme miss-leading e.g.
- everything
- weight and beauty: beauty is in the eye of the beholder. (Barbie girl in America)
- reflections seeing yourself differently to others
- mental illnesses
- advertising e.g. Fashion
- peoples emotions (what they say)
Authors own

I then thought about artists that relate to this theme e.g.
-Tracy Emin - those who suffer love
- Margaret Harrison (feminist art) the formations of what will become a fantasy
- Anselm Kiefer (Berlin Trip)
- Louise Bourgeois
- nancy speedo (Serpentimie)
- Curator Beverlly knowles

I now need to start thinking about the first idea I will develop.

Miss-leading - whitney lenox and kikyz1313 inspiration

Figure 1

This image by Whitney Lenox reminded me of the image I was trying to portray in my interpretation using the the hands to hold the eyes. Figure 1 shown in -  Lenox,2012, xaxor.com,

The information I researched from Cinderllea and Cinderella,1950,film and Temple,2012, http://flavorwire.com about the step sisters I have tried to develop the (peaked eyes out by pigeons/doves) to depicts the real events of the story. I thought about a more general way to depict what happen after I finished this design I thought to myself it needed to have more of a twist to it was I didn't want to portray this image in a general way like I made it out to look like.

Authors own

Other work from Kikyz1313 reflects decay (Kikyz1313, pizana,2014, hifructose.com) I gathered these images I though about creating a unquie way to show the same message as kikyz1313 as I didn't want to copy exactly her style as I was thinking about this I remembered when I was in the fashion and textiles pathway that I did a photoshoot that represents you the best I could perhaps use this for a photoshoot to depicts the original stories of the fairytales over more it would make the image look more realistic so that the audience would believe the story even more like it actually happened so miss-leading them even more.

Miss- Leading - Research 2

Authors own

For another way of showing being miss-lead, I thought about how dreams can be miss-leading as their not what they seem.
I have had dreams or flying, naked dreams and even had a gun pointed in my face. These represent (flying) this is the dream that I had before attending Ravensbourne depicting, I need to rise above things as I have a lack of confordenice, feeling fear meaning not ready for the next step As well as (Naked dream) feeling vulnerable, exposed left without any defenses maybe hiding something and that I'm afraid that others can see right through me
(Gun: someone trying to shoot me) feeling aggression and anger port entail danger, defensive about something, looking for shelter/ protection this stemmed from a resent break up I had.

Authors own

I then researched the origanal stories of particular fairytales.
- Cinderllea's step sisters married into the royal family but had their eyes pecked out by doves or pigeons (this in itself is misleading many versions of this story)
There was no god mother instead cinderllea planted a tree where her mother died and prayed undernieth it every day that's how the dress and shoes appeared. Etc...
- Sleeping Beauty was raped in her sleep by a king consequently got pregnant with twins, the king was married to any other women his wife tried to make him eat the babies when they were born to prove to her that he wants her and only her but instead he burned his wife and lived happily ever after with Sleeping Beauty. Etc...

These were the starting point for the two step sisters in Cinderella. I was trying to depicts the sence where they get their eyes pecked out by pigeons/doves, for this particular sence I have used inspiration from Whitney Lenox (tattoo artist and painter) as she creates in my opinion gothic beauties this appearance also relates to the work of kikyz1313 she combinds decay and beauty to depicts a desperbing but amazing piece of art. To develop my work even further I could perhaps use these technquies to improve my work so that I could develop the same appearance and message which Lenox and Kikyz1313 does.

Book Binding

This sample was to depict e.g. Book or booklet representing mountioan. This is why the overal shape of the sample is a triangle.
This sample was one of the first samples I made. The order of the numbers show what side would the reader read first. I will try to concider this in future experiments with (soft/hard back) book binding.

This sample shows how to bind a book together with an elastic band. I felt that this is a good method of a booklet if you need a booklet in a minute. This is also the case with the booklet beside it as you just use a hole puncher on the side of the book and tie it up using a ribbon etc.. In this case thread.

After getting the gist of  using this quick method I then experimented with the different shapes I could use. As it was near valentines day I decided to made a book representing that day. I cut different sizes of hearts then layered them on top of eachother to create a colourful pattern inside. In my opinion I felt this sample looked more appealing then the otherst hat I made as the other samples looked almost the same.

I felt that the envelope sample turned out the best as I have never seen a book binding technquie that reflects an envelope before.

I felt that I have experimented with alot of different styles from the soft binding technquies and that this would help me for furture designs.
