Miss-leading - Pop up frame 2

Authors own

I used the same effect as before using gold spray paint so that your ameadeatly drawn into the illustration perhaps taken a second look.

I used these tabs to surport and accurately attach the frame to the shoe box. In hindsight I should of used just a shoe box so that I wouldn't. Have this problem to attach it on to. Likewise to Isabel Greenberg.
Authors own

As before when I tried making this pop up frame the folding technquie I used wasn't rigid enough to support the pop up pieces like I wanted to so this had to be changed. I thought of using card board instead of white card as it has more strength so that it be more durable to hold up the indivual pieces of paper and perhaps look more realistic? I wanted to make the illustration as if you could just walk into that sence.

These photos by isabell Greenberg made me think of how I would display my pieces. I liked the layout she used as you need to look twice by realising how this product was make I thought in my own interpretation to use an a4 frame and an a4 shoe box to create the same effect.

These two pieces relate to the theme of miss-leading as they both depicts  the film Toystory. In these illustrations it could suggest that this was what really happened and that once again Disney has left out the important parts of the story making the story seeming like a fairytale and not a dark disturbing reality.

This illustration I found in the gift shop links very much into the theme of irony as penguins are sopose to be suited to cold weather. These two photos also relates back to the ironic illustrations from the design Muesum.

Perhaps my illustrations would look good digitally?

I like how this product is interactive and unique captured your attantion more I want this to be incorpreated in my pieces.

Mounting the illusion

As I needed to cut the boards into a circle I thought  about using the laser cutter as it would be much more accurate for cutting a circle out but in hinsite I should of thought about this before, as when I went to check if I could used the laser cutter there were a long line of people waiting to use it even though I couldn't mount in pervious week. in this case I would have to wait another hour maybe more so for my plan b I will cut the circles out using a scalpel I have at home.

For the eye illusions I hung them up next to the window for more dromatic effect so that it is more engaging to the audience I felt this was the best way to display my work as these particular pieces are evry interactive as you need to spin them to see the transformations of the eyes. I also thought of the way I displayed them looking up close it looks like a close up of a face as they eyes are in the accurate order when you first look at them.

Mis-Leading- Printing

Authors own

Authors own

After  experimenting with cartidge paper I thought it would be a good idea to experiment on floss paper as for this particular material it doesn't need to be stuck to strong card it is already rigid. This particular paper would last longer as theses moulds would be put on display for a few months, for the actual moulds after printing them off I would use a mounting technique so tht it is even more rigid, I between the papers I would use styrofoam to support the structure even more, and being lightweight it would be easy to hang up for display as my idea to display this design would be to use wire that would come down from the Celine and attach them to the table so that I would attach the yarn from the products very easliy and that they would sucsesfully hang without falling off.
There was another thing I noticed when I was making the mock up models I found that the flood paper can be scratched very easily so when I come to mount my work I'll be very carful when handling the sheets as I don't want any marks on my work.

Mis-leading - Cinderella and Snow White designs

Authors own
Authors own

These two photos dipicts some folding technquies from the serect fairy party book (Dann,1999) and the secret mermiad handbook (Dann,2003) I wanted to see whether these would work within my pieces

Authors own

This idea was Based on Snow White,1937,film, the nails represent the iron shoes that the Queen had to dance with till she dropped dead, the reason why I used these nails into an apple is that the apple in the story didn't kill Snow White instead it made her fall into a deep sleep (almost like sleeping beauty) theses to are together from the saying 'what goes around comes around' your actions can soon bite back at you in the queens case in a very painful way.

Theses experiments where based on Sophie Littlewoods folding techquies. Theses were a mock up model of what I could create for the little mermaid story, the sence where she turns into foam, I could use blue glitter paper with my photoshopped image to create a swirly structure to depicts the transformation of the little mermaid into foam. I did find this tricky to constructed as I was confused how to cut the paper to create a perfect swirly shape. This is why it was helpful using a mock up model before hand instead of making mistakes on the proper model. The shells came in handle as they enhanced the sorry I was trying to tell furthermore looked like a book as I had a pair each.

Mis-leading - Cinderella pop up frame

Figure 1

Figure 1 shown in - Unknown, unknown, flicker.com

This structure from the design museum gift shop made me think of how I could display my tree from Cinderella. I copied two of the tree photos and cut a slit on both of them so that they could slide in together so that they could stad up without falling over as this was my first go at making this I found it hard for the paper to stand up on its own maybe later on I could use cardboard to surport it more so that it wouldn't move?

This was an interpretation of the illustration I made previous (with the tracing paper) instead of using tracing paper i combind the technquies of a pop up book (the serect fairy book , Dann, 1999) to make a more dramatic effect to the audience when seeing it.
As I didn't have sray paint and could use spray paint in the building for Heath and safty issues I had to leave this piece for a while and could perhaps use the same technquie as before with the spray paint plus to cover up the gaps as the paper was too small to fit the size of the frame.

FMP - Cinderella Illusion designs

This photo dipicts the 'bird and the cage' illusion  This idea was used on the eyes From Cinderella to dipicts that the pigeons is controlling the step sisters eye site.
This idea can also dipicts how miss leading the posion was in the apple that the queen gave to Snow White the apple only made Snow White fall into a deep sleep (that is why she woke up when the prince kissed her) she wasn't really dead.

I thought back and forth about wheather to show this particular piece on a short film or to just display it, as I found out that if I created the short film the film and my other creations would nesasery be placed in the same space, so therefore I thought it would look better if the pieces I made were all together, looks more professional.

I then thought about how I could make these illusions more surstainable perhaps use a laminater but that would more expensive. This is when I thought able just using double sided tape so that it works like laminated paper but more cost effective.

Authors own

After creating the main parts to the 'matchbox book' I then printed off the piece of text from the research from Cinderella to explain the reason behind the 'book'. I used a tea bag to reflect old damaged pages which also would suit the rest of the book.

Authors own

These pieces of Paper where from the research I found at the beginning of the project I printed these out to make it clear where I got the research from, I have stuck these into my sketch book to the appropriate designs I made.

Mis-leading - Cinderella design Frame

Figure 1

Figure 2

These images were created by brooks Shane salzwedel,  figure 2 shown in - salzweelel,unknown,ancagray.tumblr.com

Authors own

Authors own

From the technquie of brooks salzweelel I layered tracing paper over the top of the photos I took, in my first attempt this technquie didn't really work as I layered to much tracking paper so at the photos didn't show through, so then I thought of using less tracing paper and using felt tip pens to enhance the detail that was already there I felt that this technquie really worked well as you could see all of the detail even with the tracing paper over the top. It also gives it a mysterious spooky feel to the illustration as the origanal stories e.g. Cinderella tells a dark and mysterious tale.

Authors own
Authors own

After placing the illustration In the frame. I noticed that it didn't really jump out at you and didn't have the impacted I wanted it to have, so I spray painted the frame gold the match some of the colouring with the illustration so that your eye is attracted straight away.

Mis-Leading tree fold (book) home

Authors own

I wrote down a list of things I need to produce the final pieces. As I was deciding how the products would be made I looked back to my project preposal stating that I was going to produce a book but I had a different idea that I would use a matchbox To create a book so I didn't need to use any book binding methods as I am making a book from a matchbox in replacement from an actual book.

Authors own

Authors own

Authors own

I used:
- matchbox for the body of the product
- string for the alternative to paper (on the sides)
- glitter paper (gold) to make the product more realistic
- Glitter to boarder the outline of the book.
- spray paint for the main colouring
- a pendent to make the 'book' look more realistic

As you can see in the photos that the string I used to represent the pages didn't stick that well, I thought about improving them as I didn't want to start from scrap as all the other features looked alright. To correct this mistake I would cover PVA over the top of the string to hold it in place to look more realistic.

Figure 1

Figure 1 is by Sarah Mitchell (Mitchell,2011,uponafold.com.au)

Authors own

I didn't use the actual tecnique that Sarah Mitchell but used it as a guide line, instead I crimped a small piece of paper (folding it). After I stuck the series of images down I realised I need to spray the outside parts of the box so that it looks more professional.

Authors own

After realising I didn't have enough spray paint left I thought of a more cost effective way of covering the box, this meant that I had to cut gold paper to the same size and stick it on the inside of the box I also had to redo the corrugated card I used for the tree photos as they became weak and tore easy, I used the same gold paper as before and attached the tree photos to them made sure they were stuck properly, they need to be durable once my work out on display for the reason that it will be on display for a while and over time could damage.
